Allowing the '-r' and '--list-changed-since' switches to be used together would allow one to "restore" files that have changed over the given period to a chosen directory. The files could then be written to CD/DVD for longer term backups. The idea would be to use rdiff-backup to hold backup increments going back however far the HDD size allows and then exporting new and changed files from the rdiff-backup backup directories to CD/DVD every 6 months or so, capturing all new changes over that period without having to write things that haven't changed more than once. This would save space on the disks and effort in a situation where backing up is both ongoing and long term.
